What are FAP cells?

FAP cells are tissue-resident progenitor cells with ‘stem-like’ properties.
These cells are dormant by default until acute injury of muscle fibers cause them to activate.
In a variety of diseases, altered FAP cell responses are a major cause of muscle pathology and muscle loss.
Current literature supports a role for these cells in the homeostasis and repair of multiple tissues suggesting that FAPs may have extensive therapeutic potential in the treatment of numerous diseases.
